How to play JILI card games

JILI makes the card games people play at home in South and Southeast Asia: Teen Patti, Pusoy, Tongits, Rummy, CallBreak. Each one below has its rules in plain words and its hands drawn out, so you know what beats what before you sit down.

Teen Patti, AK47 and Teen Patti Joker

India's three-card game. Everyone gets three cards and the best three-card hand wins. Note that a straight (sequence) beats a flush (colour) here, the opposite of five-card poker.

  • Hands rank from Trail (three of a kind) down to High card, as dealt out on the green table.
  • AK47: any A, K, 4 or 7 in your hand is wild and stands in for the card you need, as JILI puts it.
  • Teen Patti Joker adds a joker card that works the same way.
  • Teenpatti 20-20: the dealer deals three cards to a left and a right hand and you bet on the side you think is stronger.

Caribbean Stud, Texas Hold'em, Video Poker and Mini Flush

The casino poker games. You play against the dealer, not other players, and the better poker hand wins.

  • Caribbean Stud: you and the dealer get five cards each; decide whether to raise or fold after you see yours.
  • Ultimate Texas Hold'em: two cards each plus five shared cards on the table; make your best five.
  • Video Poker: you get five cards, keep the ones you want and replace the rest once.
  • Mini Flush deals three cards to you and the dealer, so it ranks hands like Teen Patti above.

Pusoy Go

The Philippine four-player game JILI describes as a self-arranged card battle. You get 13 cards and split them into three hands of 3, 5 and 5 cards.

  • Front: 3 cards. Middle: 5 cards. Back: 5 cards.
  • The back hand must be the strongest and the front the weakest, or the arrangement fouls.
  • Each of your three hands is compared with the same hand of every other player; win more rows to win the round.

Tongits Go

The Philippine rummy game. Draw and discard to build melds, and try to end with the fewest points left in your hand.

  • A meld is three or four cards of the same rank, or three or more in a row of one suit.
  • Win by using up every card (Tongits), by calling a showdown when you hold the lowest points, or by having the lowest points when the deck runs out. JILI calls these its three types of victory.
  • Picture cards count 10, aces 1, other cards their number.

Rummy and Pool Rummy

Indian Rummy with 13 cards. Arrange all of them into sequences and sets and declare before anyone else.

  • A sequence is three or more cards in a row of one suit; a set is three or four cards of one rank in different suits.
  • You need at least two sequences, and one of them must be pure (no joker).
  • Pool Rummy is played over several deals; players are knocked out as their points add up, and the last one left wins.

CallBreak and CallbreakQuick

A four-player trick game from Nepal and India. Look at your 13 cards, call how many tricks you will win, then make that call.

  • Spades are trumps: any spade beats any card of another suit.
  • Follow the suit that was led if you can; the highest card of that suit, or the highest spade, takes the trick.
  • Make your call and you score it; fall short and you lose it.
  • CallbreakQuick squeezes the usual three or five rounds into one deciding round, as JILI describes it.

Andar Bahar

One card is turned face up in the middle. Bet on which side, Andar or Bahar, gets the next card of the same rank.

  • Cards are dealt one at a time, left then right, until one matches the middle card's rank.
  • The side that gets the matching card wins.
  • Speed AndarBahar adds JILI's Extra Pay, with rewards up to 1,600x according to JILI.

Blackjack and Blackjack Lucky Ladies

Get closer to 21 than the dealer without going over. Picture cards count 10 and an ace counts 1 or 11.

  • An ace with a 10 or picture card as your first two cards is a Blackjack, paid 3:2 as JILI states.
  • You can split pairs, double down and take insurance, and play up to three hands a round.
  • Lucky Ladies adds a side bet on your first two cards, up to 125x according to JILI.

Baccarat and Speed Baccarat

Bet on Player, Banker or a tie. The hand closest to 9 wins.

  • Tens and picture cards count 0, aces 1, other cards their number.
  • Only the last digit of the total counts: 7 + 9 = 16, which is 6.
  • A third card is drawn by fixed rules, so there is nothing to decide after you bet.
  • Speed Baccarat adds an Extra Bet for higher multipliers, as JILI describes it.
